Why are quiver killers m5? Standard ski size?
M5 is not standard for skis... I think they were trying to come up with an insert that wouldn't need such a Large hole. They claim the m5 insert isn't any larger then your typical wood binding screw. With the insert you only drill a 1/4" hole instead of a 19/64" like for the T-nut. I dabbled with Tele for a couple years and my last couple pairs of skis had quiver killers and they were solid. Gave up on Tele, so I just pulled the inserts out yesterday and plan to try them in my next split!
they definitely looked intentional, it just seems like having them on the bottom of the core adjacent to the base material is asking for trouble. i have had many nasty gouges on my resort boards that would have been that much worse if there had been no wood to back up the base. being a person that rides boards way past when others would retire them, this stuff matters to me.
