2 coats spar varnish, 3 final coats mixed with graphite powder... the idea is to reduce the "scissor stick-tion" that happens with my board. Graphite is a dry lubricant and its cheap. It cured up well we'll see how long it lasts. Heading out this week end to test it out.
Sanding the varathene finish will make it smooth and fast. Graphite / Carbon will not bond to anything, not sure how it will cure. Let us know how it worked.

Yeah, sanded between coats (12 hrs in between), the three graphite mix coats appear to be sticking. I wouldn't be surprised if they wear real quick. I'll see on the two day tour tomorrow if this is even worth considering. I saw something similar on a west systems video with epoxy, via Barrows. Didn't have the epoxy so i went with what i had (varathane) and graphite powder at the hardware store for $5. Epoxy with graphite is probably the way to go but....
I don't think the graphite is bonded, more like suspended. Did a long tour and camp fri-sat and the mix held up fine (so far), it looks cool to, semi transparent/jet black. Not sure if the graphite is an actual benefit? But it didn't keep the varathane from curing.
