personally i loved my compactor poles from last season as they folded up so small. i found that they were skinnier than other poles so did not seem as durable in that sense although it was never an issue. unfortunately this season though i was unlucky and had the wire snap on me the only fortunate part was it was on the final transition to board mode of the day so now i am back on the expedition and have had no issues although only 4 days of use.
only other flaw of the compactors was if i used them as a pole mount for a go pro then the go pro always spun around as there was not flick lock on every joint, non issue in the functionality just something to take note of if its in your plans

Personally, I like my 3 pc BD Expeditions (and K2 3pc poles).
Because not only do I use ski poles for touring, but I use ... [*] While touring, occassionally turn the pole upside down and probe the snowpack for a slap over a weak layer.
[*] use as a tent pole (I have the Brooks Range Tent, and Megamid).
[*] parts for a rescue sled
So I am not so sure the BD Compactor Poles will work well in the above backcountry uses.

Love my expeditons, put 3 seasons on so far and put them through the ringer for abuse. I had some twist lock ones before and I hated those with a passion. We got a preview of next years poles and they are even sicker than the current ones. They have carbon fiber compactors and a 3piece whippet, wich is basically an expedition with the whippet head.
If you want the most adjustability and don't mind having the poles on your pack, expeditions are bomber. If you want light weight and packable, and know what length you hike with, compactors are the way to roll.

currently have both compactor is smaller the grips are great for flicking out the climbing bars. but I have had freezing issues with the poles and 2 have not been able to collapse the poles. (I think this is because they have moisture inside and this freezes both times this was day 2 on multi day trips with nowhere warm to dry them) not possible to significantly adjust size on steep climbs.
expo grips are less good just needs more practice. no issue with any of the above therefore once the compactors break I will return 100% to expo and as my girlfriend would say "cope with the extra 2"" only joking....
