Drove to the Corrigan Lake TH Monday evening. A snowbank blocks the road 100 feet before the TH: very convenient. A cold cloud layer was sitting at about 4,000 feet so instead of camping at the trailhead we drove back 5 miles to the Indigo Springs Campground. We spent a highly civilized night there and hit the trail at about 715. The sun was shining.

The trail is mostly clear until just short of Corrigan Lake itself. We climbed very firm/icy SW facing slopes to get on the summit at a little after 11:00.

The SE face held perfect corn and we dropped in for a sensational run.


We climbed back out on an old slide path which had softened up and made for much better travel than the now deep slush.



Back on the summit we dropped into the SW face which had softened. Another excellent run.


Then we followed the GPS smartphone back to the car!

The group agreed that we had scored with the cold weather up high that firmed up the approach and provided for an ideal corn cycle . We all used/needed ice axes. I wore soft boots and crampons which I considered essential to my successful ascent. My hard boot friends did not wear crampons, but could have surely used them and not been overkill.

Wow that looks phenomenal! I think the right edge of your south facing shot is McLoughlin. What do you think Stoudema?

Its great to see the Southern/Central OR volcanoes getting so much love from splitters this season!

But don't tell anyone. These volcanoes Suk! Don't ride here!

That's Mt. Bailey (Thielsen is to the east of it). Try as I might, I haven't been able to see McLoughlin from the summit of Diamond.....
