Here's a J-Pow TR. No gnar, just enjoying deep turns.
The crew on this trip: Rob, Arnault, Ronan. Tracy and Chris were excused for medical reasons ;)

This week-end offered us a window weather-wise. It was supposed to snow lightly into friday night, clear-off during the night and be sunny on saturday during the day before clouding over and yet another round of snowfalls. So we eyed the amount of snowfalls on friday night hoping that it would not be too much to go out and hike. 4am waky-waky. About 10-15cm had fallen overnight so we decided to give it a go.

We started at the trailhead in the dark with our headlamps. Soon enough daylight arrived and we continued our approach. This route is normally not done in the middle of the winter due to the tough and long approach. It took us about 2 hours to reach the entrance of the valley we were interested in and another hour to reach the spot where the slope finally picked-up some steepeness. Another 4 hours later breaking trail in fairly deep snow and we had reached our target on the ridge next to Daigenta, overlooking both Yuzawa and the Noborikawa valley.

The ride down + the hike back to the car took us another 3 hours, so almost 10 hours of continuous effort with snack breaks in between. It was tough but all worth it. The weather was perfect with blue skies throughout and almost no wind and the snow condition was excellent but expected given the N exposure. E-facing slopes had the tendency to point release due to the sun but otherwise the pack was stable. Arnault released some sluff on the 1st section of his ride but it was shallow and he managed to get out of the way.

The best and most fulfilling outing I have had in a while.

After 2 hours the target zone comes into view. Quite a long way to go still

The shredding was sweet and the sluff decent, welcome to little alaska

Great deep conditions, tough to keep the nose of my 181 cm splitboard from sinking. Just a a laid-back and very enjoyable ride. 8-)

...and finally a shaky kamoshika video

Thanks Rico.
I did not realize how bad it was in the western US until a couple of days ago when reading a thread in here.
That sucks, fingers crossed for rain/snow for you guys.

JimmyC, g_torphins, thanks guys.

It is nice when you spend a lot of time studying maps & topos, do some recon trips and eventually everything comes together: weather, snowpack, partners. The mountain gods were very generous with us on that day.

Special props to Ronan who was on snowshoes and for whom it was the 1st BC outing...
