Spent the last week checking out national parks with family. had a day on the way back up to tahoe.

woke up to a nice sunrise

Image

those clouds usually mean high winds. i figured i could take my time and catch something up there for the afternoon re-freeze.

getting the view from the road

Image

it was windy. but this worked out fine. it kept me and the snow cool in the mid-day sun.

Image

it was my first time on this peak. so i didn't know exactly what i was going to see. as i approached, the run i was thinking of doing wound up having two tracks in it.

tracks on far lookers right. but there must be something else up there.

Image

i was stoked when i finally saw the setup. four potential lines to choose from. no other tracks. i climbed the first chute to make sure the snow was still soft.

Image

it always adds to the fun too!

Image

when i got on the summit ridge, i struggled in the high winds. it was only about 20 minutes to the top, but i looked at three other lines on the way. each time i had to take my pack off to scope out safely. this added time and wore me down quickly.

my entrance. looks like a good line back there on mt Conness.

Image

shaded but still soft.

Image

steep, soft, a little off camber. a lot of fun.

climbed the one on the left. rode the one far right, tucked up in there.

Image

the snow was good for most of the way out

Nice! I hit up that zone in late June a couple years ago. You should have hopped over the ridge to the north and hit one of those 1k foot runs on the way back. That's what I like about that area is you can set a booter and hit 2 or 3 600 foot shots in the cirque then do and easy scamper over to the ridge adjacent to the north and hit a nice long run and skin/hike/skate out the same way.

one of my favorite areas to ride.

that south chute off of the conness plateau is totally worthy and a great line to get first, early in the day, then over to white or other n facing lines.
