Some much needed snow finally fell in the Tahoe! Yeah!!! The only problem is that I was scheduled to work the next few days…. Luckily the hamster wheel in my brain started spinning and I quickly realized a dawn patrol was in order. Now to find a partner….a quick check of the partners wanted section and I found that SanFrantastico had a similar idea. Perfect. The alarm clock came quick.
Gotta kiss the kids goodbye.
At the TH I met with SF and we were soon on our way. Coverage was thin down low.
Nature.
SF skinning (check out the sick log jib in the background)
After some interesting skinning down low we were on the ridge.
And dropping through the chute/notch into the bowl.
SF likes it.
And takes some more samples.
Such a nice sight to see these types of views again!
Changeover time.
Looking back.
More SF.
I had to be at work at 2pm about 120miles away and had exactly 2hrs to get there…no problem. I was 15mins early. I felt pretty good for the first few hours….
but soon I was feeling it!
Worked til 11pm and got home just before midnight.
What a day! Thanks for the company SF! |

So, did you skin into the cube or what? Way to get after it. Without a doubt the best day of the year to be in the Sierra bc. |

Fun report. I'm bored brainless at work right now so played a bit of look at random stuff in other peoples cubicle gimp pictures. Then I noticed that in the second cubicle picture there was a giants hand and old school iMac that was not in the first. Its just floating there. Your office is haunted by dead Lime coloured iMac and a man-hand. |

Gee, and I used to feel like I was making an effort when doing a regular Tahoe day trip on a pow day from the S.F. bay area... 8 hours driving for 7 hours of riding... Guess that was just the start... Nice work BCR.... |

A few more pictures... The last snowfall of any consequence was Jan 4 - 39 days ago - and it left just a very shallow 'snowpack' on this south facing slope. Three weeks ago it looked like this:
(photo credit: bcrider) Then on Feb 8 it started snowing up high, but raining down low for five days. At the very end the temps dropped and we got 6 or 8 inches of lighter snow on top of either rocks or solid sierra cement, depending on the elevation. For the first several hundred feet the skinning wasn't really bad...
...more like ridiculous.
We were hoping that Karma would pay us back for our hard work during this lifetime...
...and we were happy to find our reward at around 7500'.
When we got to the top, bcr proposed a five-point plan. It went something like this...
One.
Two.
Three.
Four.
Five.
It seemed like a solid plan to me.
We hiked back up but couldn't drop the bowl because bcr was late for work.
BCR wasn't the only one with a long day ahead. I met up with liketoride when she got off work and we made it 3/4 of the way up Waterhouse Peak before it got to be too late in the day:
It was fun and the snow was the best of the season so far.
By then I was really burned out. I drove three hours back to Oakland, sorted and dried my gear, and then ate pizza and watched Rome on the couch with my wife. Passed out by 10 PM. BCR was still at work.
Good times! |
