Howdy everyone, hope y'all have been getting out there and gettin some of that snow. We are planning the 1st inaugural OR splitfest, and it's gonna be at Mt. Hood, the weekend of 4/20.
I know other splitfests are sometimes done as people camping in cars in a parking lot, but hey this is OR style, we keep it granola out here.
OK so here’s all the info I think you need. Or everything I can remember right now. =)
We have the cabin from Friday at 5 to Sunday at 5.
It’s a 2.7 mile skin in. Not a difficult climb, but it does have its moments. The trail is well marked and wide, so even if you get in at night, you should be able to follow it no problem.
Bring all the food and clothing, sleeping bag/pad and whatever you need for 2 nights and 2 days. Avy gear of course. Headlamp, duh. I think of it as, everything I would bring for a winter camping trip, minus the tent.
This is not a ‘guided tour’ event as I can’t take responsibility for anyone else’s actions. There is plenty of terrain we can point you towards, for all experience levels from Noob up through a summit descent if you got the legs for it. Splitfests are a great way to meet other splitters at your experience level and tour with them.
There is no running water or electricity at the cabin. But it’s got a killer woodstove that heats the whole thing and it stays super warm. Firewood is already cut. Melting snow for water is easy on the woodstove as there is already a huge pot sitting there. Drying your wet stuff is easy in the cabin.
Yes, we plan to party down, so bring earplugs if you’re an early sleeper.
Sorry, no dogs. Forest Service rules.
We are bringing beer for you. One keg for around 25 people, so bring backup if you get thirsty and/or like to sleep in and miss touring.
I’ve already shelled out for the cabin, so I need to start hitting you all up for your end. $30 each for 2 nights will cover the cabin rental and some beer.

I checked on TJ and the first F/S nights available in conjunction is April 13/14, although 2 people have already booked on that Sat. Sucks for them if we show up.
The weekend after that is wide open.
However, depending how many heads we get, it may be more cost efficient to just rent another house/cabin in the area. TJ would be $300/night at their standard rate. If we only get 8 or 10 people, it would for sure be more cost efficient to rent another venue for the weekend.
So... head count? How many people would be interested in a weekend long show/hoe down? Let's see how many we get. So far I'm counting on:
Me ChronicRacing Aussie Elliot (two planker, but he gets a free pass. Splitboarder at heart.) Imitationfunk ShredOR NWBoarder
Who else? Joey and Chris, I dunno if you can take a weekend off but we'd love to have ya! New heads for sure welcome.

Awesome. If we can get Tahoe splitters to roll thru, then you guys get your choice of dates. April 13/14 or 20/21?
Actually, what am I thinking? 1st inaugural splitfest on 4/20? You gotta be kidding me.
I think that settles it. 4/20 it is. If Tahoe's down then we will consider it solid.
Not sure on the hut yet, although TJ is totally awesome... $600 is a bit spendy for 2 nights, unless we can get at least 15 people. If we get more like 10 people, then we'll just get a house/cabin in the area.

4/20 sounds just right! Talk to the lodge you may not have to put up all the money right away. and 300 bucks a night with 25 peeps for a full house is cheap

I'll see what kind of response I get over the next day, and I'll probably just end up booking TJ. Means I just gotta work hard to get 25 peeps there. How many do you think you can bring from Tahoe aksltxlt?

We'll be coming from Portland and my buddy's name is Phil. I've talked with him and were confirmed. We were just up there last weekend, pretty sweet place that will make a great base camp for touring! Just let me know any details that we need to know.
