PJ and I finally got our popup camper on the truck and decided we'd head for *assen and try it out. We finally got some snow and hoped it would be preserved even after the heat spell during the week.
We arrived a little late Saturday and headed out for some afternoon turns....the hike and views were nice but we were too late for the snow which was now mushy and super sticky. Nice day for pics.
The next morning the sky was gray and cloudy as we left the lot. The sun was trying to break through but as we climbed higher, the visibility only got worse.
Skinning past sulfur works
I don't particularly like doing the 'ol slide for life so we found a low angle slope for unbreakable crust turns and dropped in. It took us to a killer little spot where we kicked it and contemplated where to go next.
As we climbed out of the hole we were in we found these nice views. Creammmmy
Cool rock where we dropped in-PJ lovin' the bc
PJ styley
PJ on edge-a sticky situation
The next day Storn joined us and miraculously we found some soft snow. In the morning we were a little concerned about the snow conditions. It was nice and icey to start.

Storn chargin' the soft spots-and a little spray always brings a smile

oh yeah. Campervaning the back country rocks, especially with ones lady partner who shares the same back country obsession. Happy days those kind are. This TR really struck a chord.
Thanks PN&J for letting me tag along with you on Monday! I think I'm going to need a poster-size version of this one for work, so everyone can see how bitchen' my lifestyle is. Plus you even got the Big Guy in the background. Nice!
Here are a few more...
This is the frozen mank we were skinning on:
A "lifestyle" shot.
We climbed a frozen ridgeline hoping for corn if things warmed up.
We put on crampons and we took our time because the wind was still cold and there were plumes coming off the ridges.
The puffster did a self-arrest of her own.
We were going to wait for a corn harvest, but then PJ got a sniff of something on the wind...
This moment is brought to you by fixed crampons and heel risers.
Sniff Sniff...
Sniff Sniff...
Yay!
PuffNattie seems like a perfectly normal, mild mannered person when you meet her.
But when the two halves of her splitboard go together she transforms into some kind of snowboarding Valkyrie.

camper + *assen + cali sun... looks like ideal combo. I wonder how many times you are going to pull the *assen-camper super size me deal this season...
