Some notes on Re-Glueing skins

I got the BD Glue Renew kit and tried their method of placing paper bags on glue and ironing to remove the old glue. This worked very poorly. In their video the show someone using a hot scraper. I didn't have a hot scraper but I did have an iron and a piece of steal with a straight edge :idea:

. I alternated between heating the metal with the iron, and with gloves on, slowly scraping the glue up. This was much faster than the paper bag-iron technique. A scraper would of course be optimal but this works pretty well. Hope this helps.

The paper bag-iron thing never worked well for me either. I just use a wide putty knife and a hot air heat gun. It works pretty well if you stretch the skins down on to a 2x4 with some clamps.

I have never had any problems with the paper bag method. I have only used it for just re-gluing the tails, and not the whole skin, so I can imagine it would take a while. I will have to try the scrap method for the entire skin when I do an entire re-glue.

I was floated a glue iron. It's basically and electric putty knife that gets super hot. It takes all of 10 minutes to strip the glue off of one skin. The only way it would be easier is if you could get the glue to jump off.

The paper bag method doesn't really work. Don't bother. I used a heat gun (like an industrial hair dryer) and a scaper and got all the glue off in minutes.
