The dual-height risers seem cool. Too bad they conveniently won't work with Sparks. I'm sure that's not an accident.

As far as lifting the riser, it's super-simple with a whippet. It has a nice tab on the pick that works perfectly for grabbing the riser (whippet use #37).

What makes you think that they aren't compatible with Sparks?
The design is identical to the single climbing bar so why would they suddenly not work? It's also almost exactly what I've got with the G3 heel pads I'm using with Sparks and I haven't found a single issue with function (they're ugly as hell but they work flawlessly).
Plus, it would be really silly for Voile to design and market something that purposely excluded a significant portion of the user group.

Yeah Jim, can you clarify that? I don't see any reason atm why they wouldn't work with Sparks. I think your post is the first one I've seen that says this.

Hey folks,

The new Voile dual height climbing heels are essentially the same foot print as the current single climbing heel. We checked it with the Spark Ignition II binding and will work fine. We don't have a Fuse sample, but don't see any reason why it would not work.

I think the BC magazine buyers guide said something about the G3 risers possibly damaging the Spark baseplates. Something about where the additional riser contacts the base. I was confused by that when I read it too.

The thing that I would like to see worked on is better skin glue. I started using mine in may and as of November it is a battle to retain the stickyness after about two runs. Thank god for Duct tape .

But then I read that you're doing it with your whippet poles, and I thought to myself “well, nothing says NOOB splitter like carrying a whippet”. So I guess we're even.

I'm pretty excited to try out these bindings, though we're gonna need more snow first.
Competition is good, and if the market is big enough to handle two different binding companies, then obviously that means the sport is growing. Hopefully this will ultimately lead to the next step, which is a snowboard mountaineering boot.

I think the avy release looks scary. If a branch catches that thing... oofah.

There's a note on that in the BCMag review. Mike Horn was more worried about the avy release cable getting caught while skinning than riding down . Also, the positioning of the toolless strap adjustments caused a bit of frustration on the skin, but not too big a deal it sounds like.
