Pretty funny. I was there too.

Explored Echo Lake area today. This photo is trying to show the huge metamorphosed spindles in the old skin track. Most places had a couple inches of powder on top of a firm base. Everything we saw supported SAC's Low Advisory. Still a lot of willows showing on the Talking Mt slide paths, but there is enough space to sneak by and have fun. Flag gully is still thin but also ridable and fun.

Cool pic... those spindles fall from the sky like that, rather than growing on the ground?

Correct SF. So it doesn't really make any sense to write that they "metamorphosed" since they didn't. Whoever wrote that should probably eat some dates or something before posting so their brain is operating properly.

Or try carrot juice. Very high in pot. Could maybe help, who knows.

My dog talked me into splitboarding today, and since there appeared to be some soft white stuff on the ground, I figured why not? Incline Peak was the choice. The snow that has been falling a couple inches at a time the last few days has been light and dry. Great conditions, apart from the relatively shallow nature of the snowpack on some aspects.

I'm wishing I was.. Going to be close to the snow, but no riding until maybe next weekend. New Years up in Pine Mountain Lake with family, maybe day tripping into Yosemite Valley and that area... Oh well... Plenty of time to be selfish and ride without them later this winter... The snow's only going to get deeper at this point...

Are there any mellow places to ride in that neck of the woods? I have an exttra splitty setup for my wife and some slow-shoes for my cuz an his wife... I know we could always try to cruise over to Badger pass area, but... We're basically up in the Groveland area..

I'd hit up Pinecrest Peak. Nothing special but the closest best to Groveland. It's next to Dodge Ridge Resort. Let me know if you want some beta.

Got out to Tallac today to see if I could find any winter snow left up high. Sure enough, the high north-facing stuff is still good. Saw two groups up there enjoying the day. The daytime temps are getting high enough to make you sweat like crazy going uphill. I didn't get any pictures coming down since every time I ask my dog to grab the camera and shoot me, he gives me some lame excuse about not having opposable digits. I usually call BS (he does have two dewclaws) but he usually wins the argument, and thus gets to be the chief photoslut of the trip.

I descended that east-facing ridge along North Bowl. The snow was wind-buffed in places, but in the trees it was all soft and fluffy.

Solo Tallac days are the shit!

We hit Tallac on tues the north bowl needs another storm or 2 but rode from the north peaklet sweet blown in snow. We went down the reg route nice pow almost down to sweat hill. sorry no riding pics due to crew of hippys and AT park rats.

Neat inversion effect today blanketed the basin in thick fog below ~7500', viz
