Recently dug up these pics off an old computer. Decided it would be cool to make a retro TR as no one has seen these. I didn't even own a camera back then. I borrowed my roomies 2mp fuji P&S.

This was my first time to little slide canyon and one of my first big solo couloir days.


I had never even heard of people riding back here except Jim Zellars. I was solo and had no idea what I'd find and had no intention to ride anything in particular. I really just wanted to go look at the Incredible Hulk as I was really into rock climbing at the time. When I got up there I started seeing all kinds of rad granite and chutes. When I saw the lookers right cooly I couldn't resist.

Reggae Pole chute (funny everyone rides this but imo the proudest, most aesthetic line of Kettle peak goes down the lookers right of Outguard Spire):

Right about where I took this pic of Outguard I heard a huge rumble and turned around to see an avy break off the wall next to the spire and go down across where I just skinned. Kinda scared me.

The top. This chute reminds me of Zebra couloir in Emerson in it ends steeply in a rock wall:








I recall it was pretty good snow this day. Mixed powder, variable winter snow in the cooly and corn on the apron:




On the way down I got to see that the avy did cross my skin track 20 minutes after I skinned by:




Turned out to be a pretty rad day of discovery and solo riding in an amazing Sierra setting

great observation Eco and it is definitely a suiting post for 395. I would be down for some overnighter action in the sawtooths!

PJ and I had a similar experience in Horse Canyon, except not quite as scary cause our skin track got wiped out a couple hours later.

Those chunks are as big as humans.

The couloirs on both sides of the hulk may be some of the best in the Sierra as far as wall heights imho...
I think the Hulk qualifies as possibly the ultimate modern Sierra alpinist's zone. 5-star 10 pitch 5.10-5.11 (or harder) rock climbing and at least 10 stellar runs over 2*pi aspects that are all 1000-3000 feet of bliss.
My dream day: positive vibes to sunset corn in hulk left!!! Party in the lil slide yo!
