I'm all for saving weight, but the shoelace seems silly to me. I'd rather a couple of ounces of aluminium on each foot and the stability of a rigid highback.

If you slip the string off the highback in tour mode, should give you an excellent rearward range of motion. That said... a nice black cable would at least look industrial strength.

That's spectra cord. It's stronger than steel by weight. Rock climbers use it all day long and take huge falls on it. It's not just a shoestring. It's also easily replaceable with cordage from any climbing shop in any color you want.
This is the Prime binding. It is one of the lightest bindings on the market split or not.
The heel lock option is compatible with all Karakoram bindings, not just the Prime so if you have the SL30s, it works for you too.
I think that it's awesome that Karakoram has finally done what no one else has and created a "Ski Feature" by allowing us to lock down our heels. Long rolling terrain with tight trees can be pretty scary with your heels loose, and I'm a telemarker on the side.
Love how everyone picks apart the binding before even noticing what the thread is about.
that cord will probably perform better than a heel cup, it will send all your high back power to the middle of the board.
like flow bindings or salomon relay bindings.
i dont need to lock down my heel cause im a hippie but thats cool. (although being able to skate em would be helpful for some flat approaches and deproaches)

Props to Karakoram. This is long overdue and will be hugely helpful for approaches--for skating flats and skiing short downhills in topographically rough terrain--and for enabling ultra-fast up-track-to-descent switches as might be needed for an avalanche search. This makes split-boards the ultra-versatile back-country slope tool--skin, skate, ski-when-needed, and snowboard. I spent much of last week wishing I could lock my heel down on rolling approaches.
